HONOREES

HUMANITARIAN AWARD HONOREE ANNE ARCHER

Oscar nominee (Fatal Attraction) and Golden Globe (Short Cuts) winner, Anne Archer followed her actor parent’s footsteps: her mother, Marjorie Lord, (Make Room For Daddy) lived for 97 years, gifting Anne her grace and beauty, a huge heart and great genes. Anne’s father, John Archer, (White Heat with James Cagney and Oscar winning film Destination Moon) produced a prodigal daughter who inherited his sweet and open Midwestern sensibility.

Archer’s 1973 film debut The All-American Boy opposite Jon Voight carried her to kudos in her next role in Lifeguard with co-star, Sam Elliott. Archer has starred opposite many of the most dynamic leading Hollywood men including: Harrison Ford, Michael Douglas, Tommy Lee Jones, Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Donald Sutherland.  Her 1987 Fatal Attraction role earned Archer an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA nomination. In 1993, Archer won a Golden Globe for her role in Short Cuts. Her standout television work includes: Ghost Whisperer, The L Word and Privileged.Anne Archer

On London’s West End, in 2001 Archer played the role of Mrs. Robinson in The Graduate and in 2014 she starred in the theatrical premiere of The Trial of Jane Fonda at the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland, and in 2016 at The Park Theatre in London. Written by her husband, Terry Jastrow she received rave reviews and the play was nominated for the 2016 Offie Award, Best New Play.

Though a very busy artist, Archer is also an activist who has fought for human rights around the globe her entire career. To advance human rights Archer has led protest marches, testified before Congress and met both privately and openly with the State Department. In 1981, Planned Parenthood appointed Archer as its inaugural National Public Advocacy Chairman, which was a role she assumed for seven years and for which Ms. Magazine honored Archer with its Woman of the Year tribute. In 2006, Archer founded Artists For Human Rights with the purpose of bringing artists together and working inclusively with allied organizations to bring artistic expression to bear in the human rights arena through a multitude of artistic campaigns and international partnerships, and as Archer says, “artists elevate culture and only then can we thrive in a free, self-expressed and tolerant society”.
